So the more I got to thinking this week the more I thought it’s just not fair that I do all the writing and you do all the reading *smile* … So can we make this week’s list of thanks together? And, I’ll admit, the week was full and it’s late and I’m pooped. Can your gratitude help fill up my own? I’ll start us off, then will you please list 3 of your own grateful items (or more if you want!) in the comment space? We can make a mighty list if we all contribute. It’d be fun to see. Thanks for helping me sing songs of praise this week, it’s a gift to do it together. Thanks.
- Steaming cups of Trader Joe’s spiced cider. It might be my favorite part of fall! {PS Anyone have a great spiced cider recipe? I’d love it!}
- Hello Somebody athletic gray hoodies — benefits Africa New Life children and these things are so stinkin’ cute. Jeff and I bought them for each other for Christmas. Surprise!
- Kids so tired they fell asleep with graham cracker in hand.
- … And yours?

TOTAL Joy-Getting to see, welcome, and be with my Rwandan friends from Rwanda, Texas, and Portland
Getting to have friends meet friends
Celebrating all God has done in Rwanda through Africa New Life Ministries
God providing a friend that I could follow back to the main freeway, so I wouldn’t get lost
Last night was SUCH a joy…it was so great to see you. If we didn’t have the kids I would have stayed forever, but I was happy just to be there for a bit. Love you friend.
*Having a husband I miss dearly when he is gone because of who he IS, not what he DOES.
*A five year old who wakes up with so much joy in his eyes and then so excited to get little brother up.
*Sitting by the fire sipping whatever yummy drink sounds good (candy cane tea, cider, peppermint cocoa)
*Feeling the sweet baby kicks in my belly – the most incredible feeling God ever created
*The anticipation of Daddy coming home this afternoon – so proud of his hard work.
*Two brothers wrestling on the family room floor – Cody taking on the role while Daddy is gone.
Maybe I’ll write more later!
I love you friend and am SO thankful for you!!!
Ah! I love this, now I can understand why you guys enjoy reading my little lists, I LOVE reading yours! It just makes me so happy getting little glimpses into the joys in your life. Thanks for sharing who you are, love you friend.
*Being blessed with an anonymous financial gift by COMPLETE SURPRISE. God is amazing!
*Working in my daughters classroom, meeting her new friends.
*Hubby receiving promotion at work and passing his test with 100%! He’s so smart!
*Family time…dinner and a totally lame movie that my 6 year old LOVED!
*Basketball practice!
Thanks for letting me contribute!! I need to reflect more on my blessings, and am happy for the reminder! Love you friend! xo
Yay! These are wonderful gifts! It’s so much fun to read yours… we might have to do this more often. Praise God for His faithfulness to you this week. Thanks, Kari!
1. Free hospital WiFi which allowed me to read this post while anxiously awaiting for the doctor! (Just the reminder I needed to stop and count my blessings!)
2. Sweet, patient, very hard-working hospital staff.
3. Smart, capable doctors. What a team they are!!
4. An AMAZING, loving, supportive husband who is running ALL things at home. Working hard at his “real job” while also taking care of our children and home (even with one child home sick from school this week!) He is really terrific!
5. Children who help voluntarily help their daddy and each other!! Their sweet voices loving mom right through the telephone! Love them!!
6. Friends!! The kind who allow you to show up at their door at 10:00pm—exhausted, hungry & emotional. They hug you, feed you , wipe your tears, and literally tuck you into bed. Then they get up with you at 5:30am, offer you breakfast, and wish you well for another day…day, after day, after day!!
7. Dad-In-Law!!! He never says too much or too little…. He. Is. The. Best.
8. Prayers!! Beginning with the absolutely perfect prayer my beautiful mentor prayed with me before leaving town and the MANY prayers offered all week long.
9. Encouraging phone calls.
Time to stop, you said 3, I could go on and on!! God is SO good. I can feel Him in everything this week! So thankful!! Thank you, Kari!
Susan! You are so dear for writing this list, how did I not know you were in the hospital?? Goodness! I’ll email you. So glad that God is taking such good care of you, of course –He’s good at that ! Love you!
Kari-
I am not, my mom is hospitalized. Love you too!
Haha, ok good! I couldn’t figure out what I’d missed! Thanks, Susan. xoxo
~ for yummy burger and fries while i’m sick.
~ for a lovely husband who feeds the kids, naps the kids, and fetches said burger and fries.
~ for healthy children.
~ for hilarious school pictures.
~ for happy children.
~ for songs about Jesus, floating through the air, out of little mouths and hearts.
Oh so sorry you are sick but what a fun list! I want to see those school pictures!
-Getting paid to get a new (to us) car.
-Hannah leading worship loudly in the living room, with Mary following along.
-Listening to bedtime prayers from my babies.
-Having enough, God’s provision is so good!
Car! God’s provision! We need to talk soon … lots to catch up on. Love you friend!
• everything autumn! the colors, the smells, the coziness
• that even though my son’s team lost their play-off game, he personally had his best game of the season and next week I won’t be freezing in the bleachers 🙂
• that our amazing God works everything for good (to those that love Him and are called…) and I have peace, even before it has been worked out, because of his continual faithfulness
• motivation, energy, and time coinciding (!) – getting my closet and the boys room organized
• not minding staying up until 2 a.m. to host my daughter’s cast party (supernatural energy for one who is not normally a night owl!)
• perfect timing for an extra hour of sleep
• everyone excited to go to church, even 18 year old daughter setting her alarm after a late night – to my surprise, and her words “Of course I don’t want to miss church!”
• hard-working, tender, servant-leader husband who blessed me in so many ways
• grace, grace and more grace
Amen, amen, and amen! This is awesome, Heather. Thanks for “joying” and sharing it with us. Love you.
1. God’s love
2. Employment after long term unemployment (see #1)
3. Mom being in the hospital already when her massive heart attack struck (see #1)
~After months of intending to start my own journal of thanks, I finally started it earlier this week. Thanks for the inspiration!!!
~Hubby coming home from 17 hour work days with a smile on his face.
~Brendan’s last soccer game! He actually KICKED THE BALL!!! It rolled right to him and instead of running away from the cluster of kids headed his direction or acting like an airplane (the airport across the street from the soccer field is very inspiring) or a crocodile (team name: Crocodiles)—HE KICKED THE BALL!
~The one hour I saw hubby this week—he was in the middle of a soccer field coaching 6 precious 4 year old boys. He is devoted to us.
~Catching hubby’s eye during the game & receiving a wave and heart melting smile. I am his.
~Lucy’s new red boots.
~Natalie learning to find her voice (hi & bye), taking first steps, giggling at big brother and sister, and being a little stud muffin in swim lessons.
~Watching football with the kids & falling asleep during the 3rd quarter. Waking up long after the game ended engulfed in their cuddles.
~A week filled with friends, opportunities to serve & new challenges.
~The Lord protecting me from loneliness & filling my heart with joy.
~Kids joyfully sharing their toys and costumes with all who entered into our home.
~Way more than 3 things to be thankful for!!! 🙂
AHH!! I love this! Brendon’s soccer playing is hilarious, and it’s so clear God has made you THE woman for your man. Love love love it. Thanks for sharing, friend!
My turn! I’m a few days late, but I had to contribute. “Week’s End with Thanks” is a highlight of my week, so adding my own is a great honor. It’s also super-fun to read every one else’s. I love the specific things (baby kicks!) and the general (all things autumn!). It really is hard to stick to three points!
