Every Wednesday morning for more than 2 1/2 years a dear band of women have gathered together at 6am to pray. I am so honored to call these women friends. We are all ages, personalities, bents. We pray for everything from global concerns to flooded basements. There are lots of different ways to pray, but every week our prayer meeting goes like this:
1. We pray: God, show us what you are doing.
2. We pray: Show us exactly what you want us to pray this morning so that we can be part of what you’re doing.
3. Then we pray those things.
Steps one and two are so important! So often I have jumped into praying, without first asking Him to lead and guide and direct my prayers. When I take the time to wait on Him and ask Him, What do you want me to pray? I feel like He enables me to pray more effectively.
So strangely enough, Him telling me to pray for meat is connected to another mom praying for a heart.
A heart for her son, that is.
Sweet 10-year-old Elijah (pictured above) is in need a new heart. He is the son of my dear friend–an unnamed person I talk about often on this blog. Dear Elijah has cardiomyopathy, a life-threatening deterioration of his heart, and is in need of healing. Complete healing.
Elijah’s mom is the one who gave me the MEAT. When I told her the story, her eyes brimmed with tears. The same way that God completely provided meat (not just a little!) spoke of the way she is praying God will completely heal her son. Not just a little healing, not just a little better. The boy’s life is at stake, and we are asking God for complete provision and complete healing. We believe that is what God is leading us to pray. My question for you:
Will you join us?
- First, What is weighing on your heart? What is your need? Where are you in need of God’s provision?
- Secondly, How is He leading you to pray? Have you asked Him? Do! Ask Him how He wants you to pray.
- Third, if you are able: Share with us so we can join together in prayer.
- Fourth, Thursday, June 28th at 1pm, we’ll be praying together for Elijah and the other needs that are listed by you here. There is no magic in the date or time, no special formula to follow, nothing special about doing it all at the same time. But this is the time of Elijah’s next cardiogram, and we’d like to join together and pray in this way. I’d love to pray for your needs as well.
Where do you need to see God move? How is He leading you to pray? Again, there is nothing magical about us all praying at the same time, but let’s band together and encourage one another and hold each other’s hands in prayer. I know there are real needs out there, and I’d be so honored if you’d trust us with your request.
God provided eternal salvation, He has conquered sin, death, and the grave. He has provided meat for the Pattersons (!). He can give a new heart to Elijah. Our God can do above and beyond what we can even ask or imagine. Whether or not He chooses to is up to Him, not us. But we must pray.

Would you please join me in praying for my sister in law, Twyla. She is living with us for a season (not sure how long)…and she doesn’t know Jesus…YET. Prayer that we would love her well and that ultimately she would bend her knee to the King of Kings.

Father, we pray for Twyla, who you know, and You know every detail of her heart, her life, you know exactly what it will take to arrest her heart and and reveal your miraculous grace. God, get her! Reveal yourself to her, not because she deserves it but because of your grace. Overwhelm her with who you are! May she bow to you, bend to you, turn to you, and follow you all the days of her life. Father we ask you for Twyla to be birthed into your kingdom soon. For your glory and Your name sake, Amen.
Kari, I’m so excited about this- I can’t wait to see how God works, for His glory! I’m praying for Elijah!
I’ve had back pain for a couple of years, but it has recently gotten worse. I’ve visited a chiropractor, who set me up on a year long program, but I am unable to do the program for financial reasons. I know that God can heal, and I know He can provide. I just want to trust Him however He answers my prayers.
Jennifer, my heart goes out to you. I too experienced back problems for years, but God did eventually completely heal my back : ) and I am believing with you that He WILL heal your back and that He will redeem this sufferering and that you will be overwhelmed by His love during this time.

I would like to ask for prayer for a loved one who is not walking with God and is not experiencing the joy God so wants to give this person.
Father, thank you that you know Jennifer’s back because you created it. Thank you that you never make mistakes and thank you that you know exactly what is wrong and why she is in pain. Father thank you for how you have used this pain to speak to hear and give her compassion, depth, maturity. And we ask today that You would simply touch her back and heal her completely, the way that You are able. We ask you to do such a miracle in her life that ALL will see and know that You are God. Give her a story, a testimony, of your healing power. Bless her, Father! Shower her with your love. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

We need prayer for our son, Kade. Long story, but to shorten, he is 9 years old with Cerebral Palsy and Autism. He does not walk, talk, or eat, but he is definitely here with us in personality! He is going through a rough time with pain right now and we are going forward with some reflux testing (on-going health issue) and that will be next week, but in the meantime he is to be off of all medication so the test results will be as accurate as possible. So that means a lot of pain and crying and itching and overall fussiness for our guy. Seems small next to Elijah’s need, but nothing is too small or too great for our God! So proud to be a part of all of you amazing women. God bless all of your families!
Oh Father, my heart is breaking for Kade and for Lisa. God you have certainly given Lisa a special assignment in this life, to love and care or and nurture this dear boy. Oh God, please bring relief. Please God give them strength, grace, power and a renewed inspiration. Oh God use this precious little boy to show others of your love, grace, power. God write an amazing story with this family that will cause all others to see and know that You are God and that You, O Lord, work mightily. Please, Father, surround them with people who love and support them. Would you surprise them by taking away the pain and crying and itching and fussiness. Spirit be His medication… Spirit calm Him… Spirit heal Him. In Jesus’ name and for Your glory. Amen.
The power of prayer … what a gift God has given us! I know He hears and while I’ll be engrossed in photographing a newborn at this time tomorrow, I will be praying for Elijah throughout my days. 🙂
A healed heart as focus in the Elijah Prayer. On my heart already and on my iCal for 1PM. There is a special Joy in praying as a collective. Something special.
My needs? Clarity, focus, choice and self discipline. Narrow the focus, make choices, stay disciplined. TIme with God, time in exercise, time in good eating, time to find a new job or career in the next leg of my journey. Thank you fellow journeyers.
Oh Father, thank you for my friend Debra. Thank you that I already got to see her today and embrace her, see her smile, be warmed by her presence. God pierce through the lives and the heaviness that Satan is attempting to bring and CONVINCE her of your love, your grace, your favor, your purpose. your care, your absolute undying affection for her. Oh I can’t even imagine how long some days much feel, and I pray that YOU, God would give her fresh and renewed strength, even today. My need seems so trivial compared to a new heart but it has been on my mind and heart. Pray God would provide the funds to put a new roof on my house. The same month I started the Dave Ramsey plan to pay off rest of my student loan I find out I need new tires on my car and a new roof on my house!
Oh Father, thank you that you care about roofs! Father thank you that you are the original Builder, the one who designed the temple, the one who is creating an eternal temple for us, and thank you that you care about the details of our lives and LOVE to use everything to flex your muscles and show us your love. Oh Father, provide Amy a ROOF! Thank you that you’ve put it in her heart to honor you with her finances and I pray you would open the windows of heaven and surprise her with funds and the person to replace her roof. God please do this in such a way that she and all around her see and know that You are God. We worship you and look so forward to seeing how you will work this for your glory. We love you, God! Great idea! I would appreciate prayer for my marriage. My husband has been gone two years and two months tomorrow. I continue to pray for restoration and healing. He continues to pursue divorce. I have two small boys, one whom was born shortly after his Dad left and they both still struggle with him being gone. Thanks for the prayers!
Oh Father, I know Beth is seeking to honor you. I know she has wept countless times over this and I know you have wept with her. I know your heart also breaks. I pray, Father and you would work a MIRACLE in this situation and restore their marriage. God please go to this man, right now, and reveal yourself to Him, not because He deserves it, but because of your extravagant grace. God please put it in his heart to turn to you and return to their marriage. Please give Beth strength as she raises these boys. God please reunite this family for YOUR glory, YOUR name, so that all may see and know that You are the God who works miracles. Father please now, do something now to show Beth you are working in this situation. We anticipate what you will do. We believe You, God. Please restore, completely restore, for Your glory. Please pray for our son, Nate. He is 3 1/2, has Down syndrome and severe feeding issues. He screams through most feeding sessions and the occupational therapist at Doernbecher told us yesterday that we should just put ear plugs in and push through. I agree, so that’s what we’re going to do. So, please pray that Nate’s feeding issues will disappear altogether! Please pray for extraordinary patience and peace for me.

Oh God, thank you for Danielle, and thank you that you have specially chosen her to be the precious mother of dear Nate. Thank you that you have uniquely equipped her for every challenge, difficulty. Thank you that You are SO obviously blessing the Paskins family and thank you that Bob and Danielle are a shining example of your love. Please God, be merciful right now and enable Nate to get over the hump with feeding. PLEASE, God, we cry out to you and ask for a miracle in his feeding. Please let him eat, please relieve any pain that he feels. Please allow him to get over this hump and move onto feeding himself and eating regular foods. I will also be praying for Elijah tomorrow. God has even provided the perfect time for our community prayer; it’s nap time at our house at 1:00pm! I will also be in prayer for Shawna and her family. God especially called me to pray for her children. Those babies need the love of The Father to embrace them.
Please pray for the adoption process my husband adopting our son (biologically mine from a first marriage). Last week a decision was made by DHS that basically made it impossible for us to continue. Today God moved in the heart of a man who overturned the decision. We are now proceeding with the adoption and legal unification of our family!! My prayer is that the rest of the process will be smooth and bring honor and glory to God. Thank you!
Ah… we REJOICE first of all that you have already done a miracle in this situation, MANY miracles in this situation! Thank you for Tavo, thank you for Emily, thank you for the miracle of Tavo’s life. Thank you for Jay, and for the good man that you have made him. Thank you for his love for Tavo. Thank you for the PICTURE that this all is of your love for us and how you adopt us. If you can please pray for clear & accurate diagnosis & treatment plan for my son Jake, he is a little scared about his 2 upcoming tests/procedures this month. The 9th he has an overnight sleep study & the 23rd a VPI Scope of his nose/palette/throat, he has had 2 scopes in the past and has a lot of anxiety over them. His treatment plan hinges on a good clear scope. Also, please pray for my husband to welcome & accept Jesus as his savior, and for our marriage and all marriages to be honored & protected so that our generation can leave the gift of strong marriages & families to our children. Thank you!
Oh Father, thank you so much for Becky. Oh God, her love and devotion to her family humbles me beyond words and I just ask you first of all God to just BLESS her. Please bless her heart, her spirit, her life. Give her extra joy, give her supernatural strength, give her good sleep and the ability to keep her eyes on you through all that is going on.
