In summer 2022 when we lived with Papa I had this In summer 2022 when we lived with Papa I had this crazy idea that Dutch might try cross country at Molalla high school. I reached out to the coach, got the info, but then Dutch decided he didn’t want to, that it’d be too much to juggle that and school. When I emailed the coach to say he wasn’t going to join, he wrote back a long letter, supporting Dutch’s decision but also encouraging him to stretch himself & sharing about his own high school experiences. When I read it I thought that’s the kind of guy I’d like influencing my son. I let Dutch read it, and later that day Dutch said, “Ok actually I think I’ll try it.” Three seasons later here we are, his Sr year awards night. Dutch was happy to finally get his 18:46 PR, and while he ran JV most of the season, he was happy to get his third letter & join the Varsity guys as an alternate at State where they placed 5th! Most of all I’m just so grateful for the growth I have seen in our son these three seasons, for his awesome teammates, and quality coaches who go above and beyond in so many ways. Dutch I know it wasn’t always easy and we are SO proud of you. ❤️
You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown was HILARIOUS. You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown was HILARIOUS. In Heidi’s 10 shows I think this is the one where the script was most enhanced through creative artistic choices and just amazing talent in the kids. I haven’t laughed that hard in ages. Well done, @cytportland! Here are a few of my fav highlights from on and off stage. ❤️ (Next up is Anastasia, coming March 2025!)

Things were so stressful and felt dark four years ago when you were due and yet YOU have proven to be pure JOY and LIGHT to us. You lit up the last year of Oma’s life and you were Papa’s side-kick to the end. To know you is to love you, big guy. What a day you had today! Starting with your weekly visit with Daddy to the Blackburns—where you were surprised that Bill & Gail hand-made you your own personalized Superman chair. 😭❤️ No words for how much that kindness means. Then your buddies here, kick ball and cupcakes and ALL the nerf battles (thank you Nana!), then your favorite teenagers playing Outfox the Fox, keep-up-the-balloons, and Uno (you won!). You are one loved little boy. We just love you so much, Ben. God has special plans for you, your life has already been an amazing gift and I know it will continue to be. Happy birthday. ❤️
