What is the last thing you think about as you lie in bed at night? What do you think about and pray about as you lie there, closed eyes? As you drift to sleep…
I’m curious.

I’m really lame… here are my drifting to sleep thoughts– Hannah’s not crying, check; I can hear Mary breathing, check; maybe Mary will sleep for four hours before waking again, wishful thinking. Then I look at my husband who always falls asleep before me. I watch him sleep for a few minutes and then thank God for him and pray for him. Then I sleep. Lastly, at our house we always say “Sleep with the angels” as our goodnight salutation.
Funny. When my husband is home, I ALWAYS am amazed at how fast he falls asleep. So usually my first 10 seconds are seeing how long that happens. Sometimes he twitches at 5 seconds, sometimes 7, but almost always before 10. So I almost nightly laugh silently about that for the first minute or so. Then, I go through my day wondering/praying how I could have handled things differently/more godly with my children and other encounters. Then I usually start praying through my family and then I usually drift to sleep. Every now and then I’m up for an hour or more after lying down (SO annoying becuase I”m usually SO tired), so I lie there thinking about that and then pondering that obviously God is keeping me awake for a reason. The minute I start praying, I usually get tired. Interesting. I’ll have to pay more attention tonight! 🙂
I normally pray about whatever God brings to mind. But in order for me to fall asleep, I have to come up with a story that I can be a part of. Often it will take me hours to fall asleep, I’ve got to get just the right story going before I’ll be out. Praying doesn’t seem to help me fall asleep…most of the time. So I guess that’s my answer. 🙂
I am usually just SO thankful. I love my bed and my room and my LIFE and it is so fun to have a quiet place to be grateful. I love to read in bed, but usually I don’t last too long…
Haha, I’m happy to see how many of you have a hard time falling asleep like I do! My husband’s always asleep within seconds, but it takes me a long time of thinking and/or praying before I drift off. What do I think or pray about? Usually I pray over the things that happened that day, thank the Lord for my life, and try to think through some of the stories on my growing “to write” list. Also, and this is funny, if I think through the entire plot of the Harry Potter series, I can make myself fall asleep. Ha! I do that when it’s taking me an extra long time to catch Zs. Now you know my silly little secret. 🙂
