And the winner is … Catie of First Faint Gleam. Catie wins a free book from my 2013 list. Everyone give it up for Catie! Woohoo!
To all of you–thank you! You delivered a fabulous virtual stack of book recommendations for me, may of which are now on my library holds list, Amazon wish list, and real-life nightstand. I had so much fun looking through all your choices, but it was difficult to narrow down! Wow!! To be honest, I kind of skimmed over that last line and didn’t even know there was an opportunity to win a book!! 🙂 What a great surprise! Thanks a TON!
Great! Will you please choose which book you would like (from my 2013 list) and send me your mailing address through the Contact tab? Thank you!
Kari,
As you read the biography of Bonhoeffer please be aware that many of the men and women who have worked so hard to bring us the 17 volumes of all of Bonhoeffer’s writings in the Dietrich Bonhoeffer’s Works volumes have been very critical of Eric Metaxas’ book. I chose to read Ferdinand Schlingensiepen’s biography instead..Bethge’s biography is the most complete but it is very dense (over a thousand pages) and at times dry. I highly recommend to everyone to the point of making myself a pain, Discipleship, Dietrich Bonhoeffer Works, Volume 14. Even the footnotes that place Bonhoeffer’s teaching in perspective to what is going on as he is authoring this book are superb. It is the one book other than the Bible that Dr. Scot McKnight says he would choose to take to a “desert island” if he was limited to one. In it, his teaching about the gospel and what it is is remarkable and it seems to me reformational..I think I might have made that word up. God bless whatever you read.
Great book list! I am always looking for new books to read. “No Compromise: The Life Story of Keith Green” is one of my favorite books of all time. I first read it after graduating high school (and have read it multiple times since) and it so challenged and inspired me. My husband and I love his music and the heart behind it.
Same here Amy Boone! I knew I loved you 😉
I am finishing the last few pages of Loving Your Kids on Purpose and would love to discuss it with you and Kris once you’ve read it.
Jesse read Quiet (the book about introverts) and spoke very highly about it.
Looks like a great list.
